Bowls Canada Welcomes New Performance Director

Bowls Canada is pleased to welcome Macky Singh in the role of half-time Performance Director on April 1st.  Macky joins the team with a long resume including years of experience in national and international high performance sport.


“On behalf of the High Performance Committee, I welcome Macky to the program,” said HP chair Don Caswell, “he brings the experience and knowledge of high performance that Bowls Canada requires during our preparations for 2016 World Bowls and the 2018 Commonwealth Games.  He is the perfect fit and we look forward to a bright future for our High Performance Program.”


Macky was the National Technical Director and National Team head coach for the New Zealand Universities Women’s National Team for ten years.  During this time, Macky led the women to three World Universiade Games in Korea 2003, Turkey 2005 and Thailand 2007 and has coached in 71 international matches.  


Macky also spent one year as the High Performance Director Women’s Soccer and Head Coach for the Malaysia Women’s National Team and U19 where he was responsible for developing a 4-year National team Technical Plan, establishing centralized training camps in addition to educating and mentoring future national team coaches.


Domestically, Macky spent two years as the first ever Executive Director for Lutte New Brunswick Wrestling and worked closely with the High Performance Coach to create a successful high performance program.  Macky created the “Wrestle to Podium” program to provide a pathway and environment for wrestlers in the Train to Wrestle long-term athlete development stage to move into the Train to Compete and Train to Win stages towards national team selections.  

Macky was also able to establish various camps and programs to access sport services with Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic, including strength and conditioning training, sport science, nutrition and mental preparation support.


“I am excited to join the team at Bowls Canada!” said Macky, “my goal as Performance Director is to provide administrative support to the National Team coaches to create a culture of excellence for the national team athletes to gain podium success at international events.  I look forward to establishing platforms and pathways for up and coming athletes to embrace high performance culture through all levels from club to national.”
