International Coach to lead Pronghorns women’s soccer

2021, March 31

LETHBRIDGE – Moving into a new era in Pronghorn Women's soccer, Pronghorn Athletics is thrilled to announce the hiring of Macky Singh as the new Head Coach. Singh becomes the seventh head coach in the program's history.

"We are all so excited for Macky to join our Pronghorn Family, his values closely align with ours," said Pronghorn Athletic Director Neil Langevin. "He has considerable experience coaching women's soccer within Canada and internationally."

"The process to find the right coach was extremely competitive with many applications from around the world. He has proven his ability to move other programs forward and we believe that our team will be able to compete in the Canada West Conference."

Singh, originally from Malaysia, brings a wealth of experience from three different continents, most recently the head coach of both the men's and women's programs at Keyano College in Fort McMurray. In Fort McMurray he was also the Technical Director for Fort McMurray Youth Soccer Association.

His time at Keyano College was highlighted with a ACAC Men's Futsal Championship in 2019.

"I am honoured to be given the opportunity to lead the Pronghorn women's soccer program as their next head coach and look forward to coaching at the U SPORTS level," said Macky Singh about joining the Pronghorn program. "I am excited to build and guide the Pronghorns program towards achieving success on a consistent basis."

Prior to the move to northern Alberta, he led the Olds College Broncos men's and women's programs for four years (2014-18) and was named the ACAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year 2017.

Beginning his coaching career in New Zealand, he worked his way up to the National Technical Director for the New Zealand Universities Council in 1998, where he was also the head coach for the New Zealand Universities Women's National Team.

His coaching journey took him back to his home country in 2005 being named the head coach of Malaysia National Women's and U19 team. He was also appointed the National Technical Director for the women's program.

Singh's stay in Malaysia was only a few short months, moving back to New Zealand and returning as the head coach for the New Zealand Universities Women's National Team.

In 2007, Singh made the move to Canada, landing in eastern Canada as a Reginal Technical Director with Soccer New Brunswick. Three years later he was named the Head Coach of the St. Thomas University women's soccer program and Soccer New Brunswick Provincial Teams Manager.

"I am looking forward to him building relationships within the Southern Alberta community to ensure that local players have a strong program here," added Langevin. "The local community relationships will be key to his growth."

"Uniquely, Macky has augmented local talent with programs he has built by utilizing his connections world-wide and recruiting internationally."

Singh officially starts with the Pronghorn program on April 1st.
