On Wednesday Macky Singh was announced as the 7th coach in Pronghorns soccer history. Singh brings more than two decades of experience from three different continents. He was most recently the coach of both the men’s and women’s programs at Keyano College in Fort McMurray. He says he’s looking forward to building the women’s program in Lethbridge.
“Lethbridge is a sleeping giant. There’s so much potential, and I feel that I can take that…and take it to the next level forward,” says Singh “my (background) is building programs. I am well known for building programs”.
University of Lethbridge Pronghorns Athletic director Neil Langevin says their entire department has been through a “lot of pressure,” and that he is looking forward to rebuilding. The Pronghorns let go of former women’s soccer coach Jack Reddy after it was found COVID-19 protocols were breached in September.
There were 20 applicants who submitted for the position. Langevin adds that the process was rigorous. “Macky made it through two rounds of pretty intensive work that he had to do, (but) overall his seasonal periodization, his international recruiting experience was a big key”.
The Canada West AGM will be held from May 4-5 to discuss all university sports in the province. It is expected they will return to play in the Fall.
