Macky Singh selected to be the new Head Coach of the Voyageurs Men’s and Women’s Soccer-Futsal Program.

January 8th, 2024 – Lac La Biche, Alberta. The Portage College Voyageurs Men’s and Women’s Soccer – Futsal program is excited to announce that Macky Singh will be their new Head Coach.

Singh brings a wealth of soccer knowledge to the community, having coached in Canada and internationally in Malaysia and New Zealand. He currently is a Coaches Association of Canada Chartered Professional Coach. Also, he holds a Canada Soccer Association A-License, an Oceania Football Confederation – New Zealand Football A License and a bachelor’s degree in Sports Coaching. 

During his time internationally, he was the Women’s National Team Head Coach in Malaysia and New Zealand, competing in the FISU World Universiade Summer Games.

Domestically, he has been the Head Coach of Post-Secondary soccer programs in New Brunswick and Alberta for 14 years. While coaching soccer, he has also been a technical director of Minor Soccer programs in the communities he has lived in.

“During the process of hiring our coach, we were looking for the perfect fit for someone to come in and elevate our program to the next level. There has been a lot of work done to get us where we are today, and now, we are comfortable that we have the person to take it to the next steps of our young program,” Said Jim Knight, Manager or Athletics and Recreation at Portage College.

“In the interview, his philosophy on how to build a team, along with his beliefs on what teams in the ACAC must do every day to be better matched what we were looking for,” concluded Knight.

“I am honoured and thrilled to be given the opportunity to lead The Portage College Voyageurs Men’s and Women’s Soccer / Futsal programs as their next Head Coach. I am looking forward to further advance and elevate the programs to the next level and working with the Manager of Athletics, Jim Knight in shaping the programs and student-athletes to be competitive and successful; athletically and academically within the ACAC conference.”

Macky will be joining us in early January, coaching both teams during our futsal season, as well recruiting for the outdoor soccer teams  that will start practicing  in August 2024.
